Kamie Imai scored 19 points and Kirstie Williams had 18 to lead the University of Hawaii at Hilo to an 83-64 win over Dominican University on Saturday night.

The Pacific West Conference women’s basketball game was played at the UHH Gym, before the men’s teams met in the late game.

The Lady Vulcans improved to 4-6 overall and 3-3 in the PacWest. The Penguins, from San Rafael, Calif., dropped to 0-12 and 0-6, respectively.

There were 65 free throws shot in the contest, with UHH hitting 27 of 30, a 90-percent clip, while the visitors made only 17 of 35, at 48 percent.

Imai, a senior guard, also had eight rebounds as UHH outrebounded the Penguins 44-40. Junior Danielle Kooyman came off the bench to grab 10 rebounds.

Williams, a junior guard, drilled three 3-pointers while following Imai in scoring. Point guard Jordan Kealoha chipped in with 11 points.

Noelle Roldan led Dominican with 14 points. Teammates Jasmine Cox and Sarah Nelson each added 13 points.

“We were a little up and down tonight, that’s something we’ve got to work on,” UHH coach David Kaneshiro said. “But I think we’re getting better. Our ladies have responded and are working at it. I’m happy for our ladies that we got the win.”

The Vulcans host Point Loma Nazarene on Monday night. The women play at 5 p.m., followed by the men at 7:30 p.m. in the PacWest games.
